What's up Buttercup?

Uhm, so now what?

Now that American Idol isn't on anymore... there's no more Will & Grace, House or OC... what the heck am I going to do with the extra hour or two in my weeknight? I'm already jonesin' for some good ol' fashioned American smut on TV. Hell, I'll even take European smut (I hear they're a lot kinkier over the ocean).

I don't understand the point of having a new show hiatus in the summer. Is it to give the real desperate houswives of this world the chance realize how much their life revolves around the tube? I get it!

That's the one and only thing I look forward to in the fall -- the new lineup on fox. TV in the summer really sucks. Unless you're a baseball fan... which I am most certainly not. So...What else is there besides tired old re-runs? Aren't there any fresh summer flicks filled with tanned cabana boys who fall for the boss's wife or something?

Oh well, I guess I'll just have to fill my spare time with my favorite three letter word... heh heh heh.

NAP!

Night night!

The true meaning of Memorial Day...

This year on Memorial Day we celebrated the way most northern families with a pool do. We opened it!

Last year we had practically swimmable water upon its opening. This year I think there was more water in my car on Friday when I left the windows open accidentally during a thundershower. It took about 8 hours and 3 hoses to get the pool's water level back up again.

And for the second time in the history of my marriage... Kudos go out to my husband (and my inlaws/mother) for all of the tireless efforts to make today the BEST day so far this year. YEA!

We even got all the flowers planted...as well as my tomato and basil plants. I am complete now.

It'll be a while before the water's shrinkage meter is at a safe level, but Jocelyn's toddler pool is open for anyone who's super impatient (like me).

Cheers to summer,

S.

The heat is on!

Hell ya! Now this is what I'm talking about. It went from winter to summer overnight. It got so hot here today the central air is on already.

The pool preps are still under way and hopefully tomorrow the cover will come off and the chemicals will be added. It's been a bumpy ride so far this year, but all of my fingers and other extremeties are crossed for a smooth opening process.

I'm getting excited!

Cheers, S.

That's right... and now I'm a brunette. And it's 3 inches or so shorter.

What do you think?

Holy shit!

My girl likes to party all the time!

Today we went up to my cousin's house in NY for his son's 3rd birthday.

Jocelyn had a great time and was perfect for the whole trip.

This morning for breakfast she also had her first bagel with lox and cream cheese. THAT's MY GIRL!

Click here to check out some photos from the fun day.

You're gettin' lucky twice tonight....

Couldn't wait another day to post these cute pictures from Uncle Reggie's 40th birthday party today. Jocelyn had a great time dancing, singing, bouncing and playing baseball with mommy! We'll have to see if her baseball infatuation continues. Could she be the next Johnny Damon? Heh.

I was supposed to go to another party tonight, but I'm pooped and need to re-group for another big bash in NYC tomorrow morning!

Goodbye to Will and Grace

I have to say I'm really going to miss Will, Grace, Jack and Karen. They could always make me laugh. And even though I wasn't by any means a religious watcher of the show...I would always watch it when it was on and I had time. I'm pretty pleased with how they ended it... I guess it was somewhat predictable... but still, it got a few tears out of me.

And it was nice to prove to the world what I've always thought.... women and men CAN just be friends... so long as the guy is gay!

Cheers,

S.

I'm gonna live!

Well it looks like I'm going to survive another day...unless I get run over by a bus or hit by a train tomorrow...but if I were to stress out about that I'd need some serious drugs or a straight jacket....BUT...da da da da...The thyroid test came back with no changes since the last time I had it done. Yea! So the good news is - I get to go through this all again in two years when they re-test! So save your "I told you so's" for then...

So on that happy note -- I read this story today and at first I just thought it was the sweetest thing. But then I realized it's kinda morbid. You decide...

THEY'RE NOW REUNITED IN HEAVEN:

James Roberson, the terminally ill man charged with killing his partially paralyzed wife on April 25, died Thursday in Dallas.

Mary Roberson, his wife of 60 years, was dependent on her husband for care since she had a stroke in 1991 and another last year.

She was found dead of gunshot wounds in the bed of the couple’s Oak Cliff home. The 83-year old Mr. Roberson left a note stating he also planned to kill himself.

Mr. Roberson, who had cancer, told police he killed his wife because he didn't want her to go in a nursing home after he was gone.

Like I said... I don't know what to think.

Cheers,

S.

The waiting game continues...

Well I called the doctor this morning just to give them a heads up that I'm anxious and impatient and overall difficult to deal with...especially when it comes to matters of uhm life or death. Okay, I'm extreme, but you get the point.

So I called around 9 am and bit my perfectly manicured nails all day -- and finally got a phone call back on my voicemail at 4:30. I called back a few minutes later (frantic) and finally got through to the receptionist who said the doctor wanted to speak to me and would call me back tomorrow (Friday).

To that I raise my fists and say WHAT THE F...!?! These are human beings I'm dealing with here and not droids. I mean haven't they been through something like this before where the stress of not knowing is probably worse than what they have to say to me?

I am going to force myself into a drunken coma now so that tomorrow comes quicker. I can't deal with today anymore.

But on a serious note... I know there are people out there reading this because you say something to me at work or send me an email to ask how I'm doing. So, thanks for that. Hopefully this stress will be over soon and I'll be back to my usual vain self...bitching about my husband, the laundry and the terrible 2's.

Cheers,

S.

So what the hell does a thyroid do anyway...

...Besides cause me days of agony... as I wait impatiently to find out if mine's got issues or not.

FUN STUFF.

NOT!

But the long and short of it is... my thyroid is my latest stressor. Back in 2001 they found a few cysts and "stuff" on it and I'm back to the doctor getting a so-called routine check-up. Basically, just to make sure nothing's changed in size or function.

Easy enough, right?

But my blood pressure is through the roof about this right now... I had to wait 2 months just to get a follow-up doctor's appointment... another 2 weeks to get an ultrasound (which I'm assured is just "precautionary")... and I'll have to wait another week or so before I even know anything at all about what's going on.

Did I mention I am possibly the most impatient person I know?

The chances are slim to none that it's anything beyond mental anguish. But it's those slim chances that has me in a tizzy and highly annoyed at anyone and everyone who says "oh, it's probably nothing."

Here's hoping.

Cheers,

S.

Me vain? Never!

Happy birthday to me (again)...Happy birthday to me (again)...

Saturday night we went out for a night on the town with some of my favorite people in the whole wide world! Yea - that's right - probably the only people (besides Josey) who read my blog! ;-)

Here are some photos (as promised) from the big night. T & L now you'll see what the big flashes of light were from the car as we were driving to Meadows. LOL.

ROCK ON baby! Same time same place another year older, next year!

S.

On the floor again...

Anyone have a good explanation for why my 2 1/2 year old prefers the floor to her toddler bed? My inlaws have the same bed and she did the same thing to them. She'll go to the floor one or two times just about every night. We'll put her back in bed and then we'll find her back on the floor most mornings.

How can this even be comfortable????

Cheers,
S.

It's worth a shot...

If you like Chris from American Idol...sign this petition. Maybe it'll do something. Likely it won't. It all may be useless, but at least it sorta feels good.

American Idol sucks!

WTF WTF! My birthday is ruined.

Chris just got kicked off American Idol.

He was my pick to win damn it!

I'm flabbergasted. I'm disturbed. I'm dismayed... I'm ... I'm.... I think I'm going to cry. It's my god damn birthday and I'll cry if I want to.

No cheers tonight,
I love you Chris!

My teddy bear is going to the hospital...

-Mr. Bear and Stacey 1974 -vs - 2006

http://www.hannabrucebears.com/

Don't check your glasses. Your contacts are in correctly. You're not misreading this. It's not a typo. Mr. Bear is going to have surgery.

$275 worth of surgery.

He will be 31 years old tomorrow. For you mathemeticians out there, that means he was given to me on my 1st birthday. And yes, I'll be 32 tomorrow, so skip the niceties and just send me a present :)

(I could really use some money to pay for the surgery.)

I can't just get a new bear. This one has memories. We have history. He was there for me when I got my first tooth, when I lost it, too. He was there when I was grounded (unrightfully so)...He was with me on prom night (though I still can't say where and he'll never tell...) He has helped me through every tear, every broken heart, and celebrated every memorable happy moment in my life. He's my bear!

So yea, I am 32 years old and I still sleep with a teddy bear. SO WHAT!

But I found it interesting that places like this exist - an actual "hospital" where Mr. Bear will be admitted to, to be sewn up, stitched and shipped back in a week, as good as new. God Bless you Dr. Hanna! Take good care of my beary special friend!

Stop laughing. I mean it.

Cheers, S.

PS This is not a joke.
PSS Yes, you may send flowers
PSSS Stop laughing!

Addendum: The photo above was taken 11/74 so Mr. Bear is more than 31 years old. God, he's almost as old as me... the horror!

Home sweet home...

Now that I have finally gained some feeling in my hand back... from gripping the OH SHIT handle in my car with all of my might for 9 hours as my husband raced (and I mean raced) up the coast in order to get home to put our daughter to bed...I have some serious questions I need help answering about our trip to Virginia.... Hope you can help.

1) Why does New Jersey smell so damn bad?
2) What are the little puss-like/battish/spiderwebby things in all of the trees in New Jersey along the Tpike?
3) Does anyone know where SoJo's "The Fugitive" is? We lost the radio station before we could find out. I'm curious.

Enough about Jersey...now Virginia...
1) Why is everyone so nice?
2) Is Ya'll actually a word? And why after 4 days being there am I suddenly inclined to say it all the time?
3) Why does everyone in the state have a personalized license plate?
4) Why do they sell beer/wine at a supermarket but not liquor?
5) How is it possible that a port-o-potty at the racetrack smells better than the ladies room on the NJ Tpike?

Also... How come the further away from the Mason Dixon line you get... the ruder people get? I love that southern hospitality... the "welcome" that makes you feel welcome... and not that I'm imposing on your time by trying to order a simple caesar salad! Sheesh!

Most notable quote from our trip: Time for a beer... it's noon somewhere...

Cheers, S.

P.S. Yes, we made it for bedtime, and no speeding tickets.

Virginia is for luhvahs!

...and rednecks... and people with no teeth... oh yea, them be the rednecks. LOL.

But this is probably the most friendly state I've ever been to. We had breakfast at Denny's this morning and I swear we were treated like royalty.

Anyway... no time for chit chat - gotta hit the hay before the alarm surprises me again at 7am. Ugh.

Just needed a little cybertime to make me feel northern again.

Ya'll have a good weekend now, ya hear!

Happy Anniversary!

Today my husband and I celebrated our 8 year anniversary. In honor of the big day, we took our 2 1/2 year old out to dinner at the place where Dave and I had our "first" date... well... that's the first date after our first breakup... but who's counting.. it just made SENSE!

She behaved pretty well through 98% of the dinner (and that's on a parents' scale, not a grandparents' scale...) so I'd say the night was a success. You can't go wrong with PIZZA!

I still remember our officiant totally mucking up the words and saying -- "It's extremely inappropriate..." instead of "extremely appropriate..." If I could have kicked him without all 300 or so guests seeing me, I would have. But hell, no one was listening anyway... they were all too busy checking out the bride... ;-)

And on that note... Happy Anniversary Lumina.
Ever Yours,

--==**Aphrodite**==--

I seem to have forgotten the lyrics...

I was out at a bar on Saturday night and the band was playing the song "Sweet Caroline" and I realized... I have no clue what the real words are to the song.

So picture it, I'm just movin' and groovin...a few beers had by all..I was mindin' my own business and all of the sudden I'm getting dirty looks from about half of the people on the dance floor, and high fives from the others. I think someone even tried to muzzle my mouth when I was shouting/singing/whatever.

So....holy shit! the words really don't include "Red Sox Suck?" Shit! My parents used to sing that to me like rock-a-bye baby...and NOW you tell me!

It's not that I don't NOT like the Sox - and I don't NOT like the Yankees... I just have better things to do with my time than watch a ballgame every other night so I really don't care either way! Which team has the hottest players? That's who I'm cheerin' for. I'll take a Jeeter/Damon sandwich any day.

(Ducking)

Cheers, S.
