Thank You Uncle Hy!

Before I list off all of the things that went wrong leading up to Jocelyn's big bash...Let me first mention the number one thing that went right... THE WEATHER! It was perfect! Not too hot... not too cold - just humid enough to make people svitz enough to want to take a dip in the pool. People swam... ate...drank... played... had fun and most of all... we didn't get rained out!

THANK YOU UNCLE HY!

So... the things that went wrong. Let's see. Monday Jocelyn got sick. She was out of school two days last week. I got sick on Tuesday and was out sick with her on Thursday. By Friday I was feeling like BLEEP but managed to muddle through the house cleaning...cooking etc.

Friday it rained non-stop. Okay it stopped for a little while - but not long enough to dry off the grass so Dave could mow. So he had to do the mowing...the edging and put up the tent all on Saturday morning.

Saturday morning I went to get the balloons which were awesome. I brought them home and on my way out the door with them, I let them hit the playrooms popcorn ceiling and like fireworks... boom boom pop pop. 10 of the 15 or so popped. Lovely.

Then my sink decided to get clogged and when I went to unclog it - it exploded all over me (luckily I wasn't dressed yet) and my nice clean kitchen.

Then while I was putting all of the soda into the cooler a few cans exploded on me.

At this point I was ready to cancel the party thinking it was an omen. That and the big dark cloud that seemed to hover over me. Luckily around 2pm that cloud disappeared and the sun came out. I actually thought about getting my sunglasses for a moment.

But then the kids started to arrive -- and pretty soon all 60 or so guests were busy in the pool...or eating... or hanging out talking. It was perfect. Jocelyn had an amazing time and this morning when she got up and walked into her playroom she was sad that the party was over.

I am too. Especially since it only ended a few hours before Jocelyn woke up.. thanks to a late after party poker game ;-)

Here is a great video (& some photos of the big day) of her during her favorite part of the party... The cake!

More pictures to follow soon.

Cheers,

Happy Mommy of a 3-year-old

Faith needed!

This is likely the cause of my 5 day stomach ache:

A look into next weekend reveals some unsettled weather. A warm front will be moving through Friday, with warmer and more humid air behind it. At this point, there's not a lot of confidence in the long range forecast, and we'll fine tune it as we get closer. In terms of trends, expect a chance of showers and storms and warm temperatures for Friday through Sunday.

Let us all say it together. PLEASE... COME ON UNCLE HY - no rain on Saturday!! Let it be sunny and warm and gorgeous! I have faith!

And if you have no clue what I'm talking about see my previous blog about Uncle Hy.

Cheer, S.

Gone crazy... wanna come?

I need everyone to band together for this one. It's a biggy.

I need "SWV" - Sunny Weather Vibes- for where I live next Saturday, August 26th.

And since most of the people reading this will probably be at my house next Saturday for Jocelyn's big birthday bash, unless you wanna be eating soggy hotdogs in the pouring rain (yes there will be beer so that makes it a little more appetizing) - you gotta HAVE FAITH!

Everyone repeat after with me.

COME ON UNCLE HY!

The weather ain't lookin so hot right now - but yes, I know, the weathermen can't predict that far ahead. BUT STILL. It's enough to cause a considerable amount of discomfort in my stomach.

Say it again.

HAVE FAITH!

UHF - we're looking forward to the brightest, most beautiful day of the year on 8/26/06!

Cheers,

S.

Home is where the hair dryer is!

It finally hit me this morning that my vacation was over. I realized it when I plugged in my hair dryer for the first time in 8 days. At the beach I really didn't need to dry my hair after I took a shower (yes I did manage to shower almost every day)... and if I did need to dry my hair quickly - I'd use the hairdryer provided at the bed and breakfast we stayed at. And my naturally looking bed head (also referred to as the "just got laid hair") was a perfect fit for the lazy beach days. I actually like the way it looks when it dries with sand and saltwater in it. Redken should take note of that!

So this a.m. when I turned on my hairdryer I realized some very scary things.

1) My final vacation of the year is over.

2) Summer is almost over.

3) I have only 1 more vacation day left.

4) My daughter is going to be three years old in a few weeks.

5) I'm having a huge party for my daughter, who is turning three, in only a few weeks!

So check back again on August 27th when I get back from going crazy... By then I'll be done stressing and will officially start sulking (for the next 9 months) about my favorite season coming to an end.

Wah!

Cheers,
S.

Home at last!

Ever go on vacation and get back thinking you need a vacation from your vacation? Yea.

Okay... so let's see how we did on the list I made before we left...I had hoped that:

1) Jocelyn is as good, if not better, than she was last year

On a mommy scale of 1 to 10 I'd say she was a 9. With the exception of the first night, Jocelyn slept great. One morning even until 8:30. Going out to eat was always a challenge because when Jocelyn's done... she's done. We'll have to work on that.

2) No one we know dies while we're there (last year we had to come home for a friend's dad's wake)

Hallelujah everyone's safe and sound.

3) Mommy and daddy don't catch whatever Jocelyn has - and whatever Jocelyn has goes buh-bye

I still think she was faking!

4) Mommy and daddy can manage to go most of a week without grandparents

Well... we did pretty well. With the exception of day one when we were barely able to function without constant coffee thanks to a sleepless night.

5) Mommy and daddy can go a week without fighting (love you too blankety blank)

I think we did pretty well, don't you a$$hole?

6) There isn't a lobster shortage

Believe it or not I only had lobster one night. It wasn't even that good.

7) The sun shines all week(c'mon Uncle Hy!)

Oh my god. The weather was awesome. It was so friggen hot that it made the beach all that more beautiful and welcoming to my sweaty skin. Uncle Hy you nailed it!

8) The hydrangeas are as beautiful as last year

Totally were!

9) Mommy's new bathing suit looks good on her

It did until the california rolls...philadelphia rolls...pretzel...3 nights of ice cream...pizza etc hit

10)Mommy doesn't eat herself into a new dress size

See number 9.

Here are some photos from the last 8 days.
